MIDDLE SCHOOL — ACTIVITIES
Opportunities to learn, grow and have fun
The middle school students of Lighthouse Christian School have many opportunities for involvement in co-curricular activities. In addition to athletics and student council, clubs are offered each semester. The clubs vary, depending on the talents and skills of the parents able to offer each club.
This semester, the following clubs are available to Lighthouse Christian School middle school students:
Chess Club
Fitness Club
Jazz Band
Investment Club
Clubs generally meet for an hour after school one day a week, giving students opportunity to enjoy friendships and become more skilled in areas of special interest.
Technology
Currently, the school makes full use of a 22 station computer lab with another mobile lab of 25 notebook computers on the way. Students in grades 4 and 5 learn keyboarding, basic Word techniques and how to build a PowerPoint presentation while MS students are involved in more advanced applications. Eighth graders graduate ready to complete research papers, present information through power point and navigate the internet with integrity.
In spring of 2008, the board of LCS determined to offer the technology required for 21st Century Learning. An LCS projector is installed in each classroom and the resources found on the internet are becoming available to each teacher. Students find that watching real time news, science demonstrations and historical events makes the classroom a more exciting place. Learning takes on a new meaning as art museums are explored, other countries are visited, and students are able to connect with the world beyond their classroom.
Significant investment in new network infrastructure equipment led to Lighthouse Christian School having a completely wireless network environment in 2009-10. Our network is equipment with high-speed Internet access, state-of-the-art security, and a super fast network backbone to allow for quick connectivitity with other students and people around the world. With professional development for the teachers, and more computers and laptops available, technology will be a platform for preparing our students for success in high school.
