SUPPORTING THE MISSION
Stewardship and Generous Hearts
While tuition covers nearly 90% of the Lighthouse operating budget, the remaining gap each year is serviced through fundraising efforts. Thanks to generous hearts and broad-based participation, the model works well at Lighthouse, promoting stewardship and making the school accessible for a wide range of families. Without the benefit of state and federal funding, Lighthouse relies on its families and friends for vital financial support. For the 2009-10 school year, the need is $165,000, or a gap per student of nearly $600. As a 501c(3) organization, gifts to Lighthouse are tax deductible as allowable by law.
Each year, we ask that parents participate in the annual fundraising process in three different ways:
Annual Fund "Quest for Excellence" pledge
Annual enrollment pledge campaign is LCS' most important non-tuition revenue source — The enrollment pledge campaign jump starts the fundraising effort, allowing adequate time for planning before the beginning of the following school year. This is the most important source of revenue for Lighthouse over and above tuition. While pledges are committed at enrollment time, fulfillment is not required until March 1. The timing provides a specific auction revenue goal and brings the school closer to a balanced budget. The annual goal is for 100 percent board, staff, and family participation. Gifts of all sizes are necessary and appreciated.
SUPPORTING THE MISSION
Annual Auction - March 16th, 2013 - "An Evening at Sea"
As the youth of today struggle with increasingly complex issues, providing them with the tools to make good life choices is imperative. Our March 16, 2013 Benefit Auction “An Evening at Sea” -- is designed to invite parents, friends, and the Gig Harbor community to join with us in a festive evening, while supporting our mission to provide quality Christian education. Support of this event will play a critical role in our success as we seek to enrich the lives ¬-- ¬and the futures -- of area children.
Tuition is intentionally set below market to make a Lighthouse education affordable for more local children. Fundraising is a crucial factor in meeting our operating budget each year, with 15 percent coming through donations and special events. These funds help us to maintain quality staff, launch new programs, maintain our facility, provide tuition grants for families in need, and increase extracurricular activities. Operating without state, federal, and local funding, Lighthouse largely depends upon the generous hearts of families, friends, and community leaders.
Each year a key piece of the Lighthouse operating budget is achieved through our annual Auction. Recent auctions have made a significant impact on many areas of the school including:
• New kitchen equipment which has enhanced our hot lunch program
• An Apple iMac lab
• An Apple Mobile Laptop lab
• Projection Units/DVD and Blu-ray machines in most classrooms
• Science lab – complete with SMART Board – for the elementary classes, to augment the current Middle School science lab
• Playground improvements
• Art, Audio Visual, and the library
Planning happens nearly year-round for this fun evening of fellowship…and fundraising! If you would like to get involved, please contact Sally Glover sglover@lcschool.org. Corporate Sponsors and event donors are a key to our success.
Building Campaign
Since 2005, Lighthouse students have enjoyed the blessing of our new facility. Life in the portables seems like a distant memory! Drama productions, basketball games, and science experiments have taken on new meaning for Navigators.
The fabulous facility launched Lighthouse to a new level in quality Christian education and is rapidly becoming a beacon in Gig Harbor. With these new facilities and programs, however, also comes responsibility for $2.9 million in permanent financing.
As the focus on the future at Lighthouse centers around increased programs, maintaining highly-qualified staff, and a new emphasis on technology, retiring the debt remains a top priority. Our prayer is that those now enjoying the blessing of the facility will consider a role as we work together in this important endeavor.
